چکیده

An important issue for optimal operation and plantwide control is to find the degrees of freedom available for optimal operation. A previously published systematic approach to determine the steady state degrees of freedom is expanded to take into account the active charge as a possible degree of freedom in cyclic processes. Additional degrees of freedom related to the composition of the circulating refrigerant are also discussed. Two liquified natural gas (LNG) processes of current interest, the C3MR process from Air Products and the mixed fluid cascade (MFC) process developed by Statoil-Linde LNG Technology Alliance, are studied with respect to operational degrees of freedom.

Optimal operation of simple refrigeration cycles: Part I: Degrees of freedom and optimality of sub-cooling

The paper focuses on the operation of simple refrigeration cycles. With equipment given, there are, from a control and operational point of iew, five steady-state degrees of freedom; the compressor power, the heat transfer in the condenser, the heat transfer in the evaporator, the choke alve opening and the active charge in the cycle. Different designs for affecting the active charge, including...

Performance Investigation of Two Two-Stage Trans-Critical Carbon Dioxide Refrigeration Cycles Ejector and Internal Heat Exchanger

In the present work, the performances of improved two-stage multi inter-cooler trans- critical carbon dioxide (CO2) refrigeration cycles with ejector and internal heat exchanger have been examined. In the new improved cycles, an internal heat exchanger is append to the cycles. Also, second inter-cooler in improved cycles, cooled with the refrigeration of the cycle, so that in first c...

The Response of Two-Degree of Freedom Self-Sustained Systems with Quadratic Nonlinearities to a Parametric Excitation (RESEARCH NOTE)

In this study the interaction between self-excited and paramet rically excited oscillations in two-degree-of-freedom systems with quadratic nonlinearities is investigated. The fundamental parametric resonance of the first mode and 3:1 internal resonance is considered, followed by 1:2 internal and parametric resonances of the second mode. The method of multiple time scales is applied to derive f...

Optimal operation of simple refrigeration cycles: Part II: Selection of controlled variables

The paper focuses on operation of simple refrigeration cycles and considers the selection of controlled variables for two different cycles. One is conventional sub-critical ammonia refrigeration cycle and the other is a trans-critical CO refrigeration cycle. There is no fundamental difference 2 etween the two cycles in terms of degrees of freedom and operation. However, in practical operation t...

Transient Characteristics of a Single-Effect Absorption Refrigeration Cycle

This paper deals with a lumped-parameter dynamic simulation of a single-effect LiBr-H2O absorption chiller. In many studies the thermodynamic properties of LiBr-H2O solution were taken from some approximate relations causing the results to be somewhat inaccurate. These relations were used to solve simultaneous differential equations involving the continuity of species constituting the LiBr-H2O ...
